eBooks: Open Source eBooks

What is an eBook? It's a book in digital form that you read on a computer, eReader, or mobile device. This guide will help you search Cañada's eBook collections, download eBooks, and read them.

Internet Archive: eBook and Text Archive and Open Library

If you lose your internet connection, you might be asked to re-enter your library card number. If you close your browser, the best way to get back to your eBook is through the PLS catalog. You will log into Open Library again, and under "borrow," it will show that you already have the book checked out, and you will be prompted to connect to it again.

Project Gutenberg

Do you need to read a classic book or research some historical information? Project Gutenberg provides access to 40,000+ free fiction and nonfiction eBooks. Read them on your computer or an device with internet access!


Project Gutenberg is a free digital library comprising mostly of classic and obscure books in the public domain usually due to expired copyrights. Some titles have been included because permission for non-commercial use has been given by the copyright holder. Most eBooks will be offered in plain text, but other formats may be available.

The Community College Consortium for Open Educational Resources provides "open and free textbooks that may be suitable for use in community college courses from the list subjects provided. For descriptions of these open textbooks, see listings in MERLOT and OER Commons. Most of the textbooks on this list have Creative Commons (CC) open licenses or GNU-Free Document License. Others are U.S. government documents in the public domain (PD)."
