eBooks: Library iPads

What is an ebook? It's a book in digital form that you read on a computer, ereader, or mobile device. This guide will help you search Cañada's ebook collections, download ebooks, and read them.

Borrow a Library iPad for Easy Reading of eBooks.


Cañada College Library iPads may be borrowed for three days during the semester. To check out an iPad, you will require a library card, and you will also need to sign the technology agreement form. Please see the library's circulation desk for more information.

How to Download EBSCO eBooks to iPads

EBSCO eBooks can be downloaded and read using an Apple device (iPhone, iPod Touch, or iPad) using the Bluefire reading app available for free from iTunes. In normal circumstances, to download an EBSCO ebook to an iPad you would need to:

1. Install Bluefire Reading App

2. Create an Adobe ID

3. Sync the Adobe ID to the Bluefire App

However to stream line this process for you, the library's iPads have the Bluefire app installed and the Cañada College Library Adobe ID is stored as the default account. Therefore, you may go straight to EBSCO ebooks and follow these directions to download an ebook:

Checkout and Download an eBook from EBSCO eBooks

Use the Safari browser on your device to access EBSCO eBooks and locate an eBook you would like to download to the device.

To download an eBook:

  1. Click the Download (Offline) link for the eBook you would like to download.

    If you are not logged into your My EBSCOhost folder, you will be prompted to do so. Create an account if you do not have one.

  2. Select a Checkout period from the drop-down menu and click the Checkout & Download button. The eBook will be added to the Checkouts area of the folder.

  3. When prompted, tap to open the eBook with the Bluefire app. The Bluefire app opens and begins downloading the book.

  4. After the eBook is finished downloading, select Read Later or Read Now to open your eBook and begin reading.
