ESL 912: Prof. Castello: Books & E-Books

Books from the Catalog

Biographies and autobiographies (including diaries and memoirs) are very good types of sources for researching famous people. You can find them in the online library catalog.

The Peninsula Library System Catalog includes books from libraries throughout San Mateo County.  To search only for books at Cañada, under location select Cañada. You can also search from the Cañada Library's homepage:

To request books from other libraries, place a Hold.  You will be asked to enter your library card number and PIN.  The book will be sent to Cañada Library in 3-5 days. It is FREE to request a book from another library.

What if I just want to browse the bookshelves?

If you want to browse the bookshelves, biographies (in academic libraries) are shelved under the topic with which the biographee (the person who is the subject of the biography) is most closely identified. However, you won't find e-books by browsing.

Books & E-Books

E-books are like books that have been scanned. You can:

  • Read them on the computer screen
  • For some books, you can email yourself a chapter from the e-book to read later or print
  • For some books, you can download an entire e-book onto a laptop and keep it for two weeks.
  • Citation is done for you.

The EBSCO Academic e-books  database has more than 70,000 full-text ebooks on academic subjects from business to science and engineering to the humanities.
