Evaluating Scientific Information (if you're not an expert)

tips for critically evaluating scientific research articles and news reports about research

Is the information current? Or is it out of date?

Take a look at this website, and ask yourself:

  • Is there an obvious date for when it was last updated?
  • If it is not obvious, are there any clues to how recent the information might be?
  • If it links to other websites, how recent are those?

What is your best guess on how up-to-date this information might be? Is that a concern - or is the information useful even if it is older?
