Sometimes you have to play around with keywords for a while to find the right terms.  If you were looking for information about Cesar Chavez, you might try different keywords:

  • Cesar Chavez
  • Labor leaders
  • Migrant labor
  • Migrant agricultural laborers
  • United Farm Workers
  • Mexican American
  • Mexican American Biography
  • Nonviolence

As you do your research, keep a list of keywords that help you get to the information you are looking for.

Why do Research?

This is a picture of two children waiting to be evacuated from Hawyward to iternment camps during World War II.  Executive order 9066 required Americans of Japanese descent homes and businesses to be interned for "national security" reasons.  The War Relocation Authority (WRA) hired Dorothea Lange and other photographers to document the process.  Some of Lange’s photographs were later suppressed by the WRA.

Doing research helps you learn more about a topic.  Would you like to learn more about the internment of Japanese Americans, or artists like Dorothea Lange?  Want a book about this topic?  An article?  A website?  More primary sources
