Welcome!

The library can help you find all kinds of information sources for your papers.  We also offer quiet work spaces, computers, printing, textbooks, and friendly librarians.

Library Group Work

Work in groups of 3 or 4 and use what we learned about researching information to FIND 4 INTERESTING FACTS that will give us some background about the book, When I Was Puerto Rican by Esmeralda Santiago.

Your facts must come from 3 different types of source:  article databases, books, and websites.

Your facts can be about any of these things:

  • facts about the author (What personal info can you dig up?)

  • facts about Puerto Rico (culture, history, people, geography. etc)

  • facts about the book: (For example: When was the book written, how popular is it? what do people think about it? has it been translated? Made into a movie?)

Your group will need to present 1 of these INTERESTING facts to the entire class

Why do Research?

Would you like to learn more about Esmerelda Santiago?  About Puerto Rico?  Doing research helps you learn more about a topic.  Learning about Puerto Rico, for example gives you context for reading and interpreting Santiago's novel.   Here at the library we have print and electronic sources on just about every topic!
