EasyBib: MLA Citation and Annotation

Creating an Annotated Bibliography in EasyBib

  • Register for an EasyBib account.  Registering will enable you to use EasyBib from anywhere to create bibliographies for any class for your entire career at Cañada College.
  • Use EasyBib to create a MLA citation for your encyclopedia article: 
    • Go to EasyBib
    • Select the Database tab
    • Under "What kind of database article are you citing?" select Encyclopedia article
    • Enter the information from your encyclopedia article
  • Click the Add Annotation button at the bottom to add some notes for your annotation (why did you pick this aritcle?

You can go through the same steps to add your second database article.

 

Library Assignment I

For this class you will be researching a topic related to your textbook, Mountains Beyond Mountains.  What do you want to learn more about?  What will help you better understand this book and the questions it explores?

I.  Gale Virtual Reference Library

  1. What is your topic?
  2. Write down 3 keywords related to your topic. 
  3. Use your keywords to do some searches in Gale Virtual Reference Library
  4. Look over your results.  Send yourself at least one article.
  5. Pick one article to share with the class.  What kind of information does it have?  How does it relate to Mountains Beyond Mountains?  Does it any other books or articles to look at? 
  6. Write down the MLA citation for your article.

II.  General OneFile

  1. Do a search for the phrase "Mountains Beyond Mountains."
  2. Pick at least one article to send to yourself and share with the class.
  3. Write down the MLA citation.
  4. What kind of a magazine or journal does it come from?  Who do you think writes for that magazine or journal?  Who do you think is the audience?
  5. Go back to your topic.  Do you need to make any revisions?  Any new information or research questions?  Any new keywords?

Now that you know a little more about your topic and your research questions, let's find some more articles in the databases.

III.  General OneFile

  1. Go to Advanced Search in General OneFile.  
  2. Enter some of the keywords you found in Mountains Beyond Mountains, your encyclopedia entry, and your article.
  3. Review your results. 
  4. Pick a least one additional article to send to yourself and share with the class.
  5. What kind of a magazine or journal does it come from?  Who do you think writes for that magazine or journal?  Who do you think is the audience?
  6. Write down the MLA citation for your article.
  7. Write a brief annotation for your article:  a 2-3 sentence description of what the article is about and how it relates to your essay topic.

1.      Go to the Books Tab.

2.      Try using some of your keywords to find a book in the Peninsula Library System online catalog

3.      If you find a book at another library you can request that it be sent to Cañada by placing a Hold

4.      Go back to the Articles Tab

5.      Try using some of your keywords to find an article in Proquest Science Journals

6.      Send yourself one article.

7.      Write down the MLA citation for your article
