PTK International Honors Program

Phi Theta Kappa, community colleges' national honors society, offers invaluable experience and resources

If you're planning to transfer to a university, consider joining Cañada College's chapter of community colleges' only national honor society, Phi Theta Kappa. For 13 consecutive years, Cañada College's Phi Theta Kappa chapter has been named a Five Star Chapter. Alumni have transferred to Stanford, UC Berkeley, Williams, M.I.T., Columbia, UCLA, UC Davis, Cornell, University of Washington and Dartmouth and have gone on to graduate institutions such as UCSF, and Harvard, Vanderbilt, Oxford, and Cambridge universities.

The only honor society named by the American Association of Community Colleges as an official honor society for two-year colleges, Phi Theta Kappa offers webinars and online tools for finding scholarships. You're eligible for membership in Cañada College's Phi Theta Kappa chapter if you have a cumulative GPA of 3.45 or higher and have completed a minimum of 12 units at Cañada in courses that are degree applicable. With a network of more than 3.8 million members around the world, Phi Theta Kappa’s one-time international membership fee is $60. Beta Zeta Nu is in PTK's Nevada/California Region.

Each year Beta Zeta Nu chapter members participate in PTK's Honors in Action, an Honors Study Topic exploration, problem solving, and action-oriented service to address community challenges. Students meet over the course of a semester or year to research and create a project according to the Honors Program Guide. Advisors for Cañada College's Beta Zeta Nu chapter are Autumn McMahon, Katherine Ramirez, Paul Roscelli, and Prof. Gampi Shankar.
