Funeral Service Education

The ABFSE serves as the national academic accreditation agency for college and university programs in Funeral Service and Mortuary Science Education. Although its roots go back to the 1940's, the ABFSE became an autonomous agency in 1962. The accrediting function of ABFSE is recognized by the US Department of Education and the Council on Higher Education Accreditation.

The purpose of CFDA is to advocate and provide continuous professional development and enhance the economic viability of member funeral service practitioners in order to provide services as desired by consumers. CFDA is recognized nationally by the profession for its progressive thinking and the value of its programs and services.

A membership organization, the Funeral and Memorial Information Council (FAMIC) is comprised of organizations in nearly all areas of the death care industry.

The National Funeral Directors & Morticians Association, Inc. is a membership association of professional funeral directors and morticians and embalmers, whose members and members-at-large are also members of state associations of funeral directors, morticians and embalmers dedicated to promoting the common professional and business interests of its members.
The Student Membership fee is complimentary for one year and $25 thereafter or until
Apprenticeship License is issued.

Thanos Institute was founded in 1981 to help funeral directors educate the public through Home-Study Continuing Education for Licensed Funeral Directors and Embalmers, and through educational programs for Funeral Associations.
