Most commonly, essays and assignments that discuss poems or poetry use MLA formatting.
Whatever format your professor or class asks for, just remember that citing poetry is no different from citing anything else. By that I mean, you are not expected to know exactly how to cite poems (vs articles, movies, etc.), but you are expected to look up the rules for how to cite them.
