Antiracism: A Resource Guide

Patrisse Cullors, co-founder

"I identify as an organizer versus an activist because I believe an organizer is the smallest unit that you build your team around. The organizer is the person who gets the press together and who builds new leaders, the person who helps to build and launch campaigns, and is the person who  decides what the targets will be and how we're going to change this world." (patrissecullors.com)

Interviews and Documentaries

Opel Tometi, co-founder

"We have a long way to go until we achieve justice and dignity that all Black people deserve. . . . And to be absolutely clear, the work is beyond just issues of racism, but it’s also the issue of classism and sexism in our societies. We need and deserve equity in every sphere of our lives." (opaltometi.org)

Alicia Garza, co-founder

“Of course white and non-Black lives matter, but . . . given this country’s history, policies and criminal justice system, it’s obvious that Black, Latino and indigenous lives are the ones that are constantly undervalued, underserved and viewed as less important. This has got to change.” (aliciagarza.com)

BLM Affirmations

We are expansive. We are a collective of liberators who believe in an inclusive and spacious movement. We also believe that in order to win and bring as many people with us along the way, we must move beyond the narrow nationalism that is all too prevalent in Black communities. We must ensure we are building a movement that brings all of us to the front.

We affirm the lives of Black queer and trans folks, disabled folks, undocumented folks, folks with records, women, and all Black lives along the gender spectrum. Our network centers those who have been marginalized within Black liberation movements.

We are working for a world where Black lives are no longer systematically targeted for demise.

We affirm our humanity, our contributions to this society, and our resilience in the face of deadly oppression.

The call for Black lives to matter is a rallying cry for ALL Black lives striving for liberation.
